Dublin Lord Mayor – Mediates Dispute
The Lord Mayor of Dublin Councillor Micheál Mac Donncha offer to act as mediator in the dispute between Bricklayers represented by BATU and Bracegrade Limited represented by the CIF has been accepted by all parties.
BATU Deputy General Secretary Andrew Smith and a BATU workers representative met the Lord Mayor at Dublin’s Mansion House On Thursday 5th October 2017 and briefed him of the background to the dispute. The Lord Mayor was also advised of the widespread issue of Bogus Self Employment in the Construction Industry and the displacement of PAYE workers by the use of non compliant sub-contractors.
Following the failure of negotiations to ensure the re-employment of Bricklayers, our members voted unanimously to serve notice of Industrial action on the company.
However members have deferred picketing in order to allow the Lord Mayor’s initiative secure a resolution to the dispute.
